How to Crochet for Beginners

How to Crochet for Beginners is ideal for those who have never crocheted but are looking to learn a lifelong artform. In this 4-week course, students will learn the different types of stitching, how to read patterns, how to speak the language of “crochet,” and much more. There will be information sheets provided for students to take home for continued practice and learning. The $45 registration fee includes all materials (H hook and yarn). The course will be held on Wednesdays starting February 19, 2025, through March 12, 2025, from 4p-6p at the Corry Higher Education Council.

Bat Chat - Welcome to the World of Bats

Join bat enthusiast, researcher, and rehabilitator Sandra Emke as she swoops into the world of bats! The presentation will start with some bat basics learning about bat biology and misconceptions. The presentation will end with interesting facts, ecological impacts, and what people can do to help the local bat populations! Don’t miss this bat chat - there might even be a sweet treat! Attendees will receive handouts pertaining to the presentation to take home as well. The presentation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2025, from 5p-6p at the Corry Higher Education Council. Beginner Grant Writing Series - Part III: Identifying Funding Opportunities

Calling all grant writers!! Don’t miss this amazing FREE opportunity to sharpen your grant writing skills during this three-part series for basic grant writing. Participants will be introduced to all aspects of the grant writing process. During session III, participants will learn useful tips and tools for finding potential grant sources and how to develop relationships with funders. This series is designed for staff and volunteers of nonprofit organizations interested in learning more about writing grants. Each of the three sessions will have a different topic – attend one or all three sessions (*Attending ALL sessions for more effective grant writing is HIGHLY advised):

- Feb 25: Identifying Funding Opportunities

Generational Leadership Training
with Bradley Thompson
This workshop is intended to instruct managers and leaders on how they may best lead a diverse group of people and increase their businesses retention. Specifically, we will be looking at generational differences among employees.
In each session, discussions will include leadership and management techniques, the difference between leading and managing, generational differences, how to best adapt to each employee’s needs, ways to retain employees and reduce turnover, among other related topics. There will be a discussion at the beginning of each session, along with videos and/or PowerPoint presentations. After the discussion, as a group, individuals will share their own experiences and thoughts on the topic(s) of the day, and then will workshop solutions together. Between each session, attendees will be expected to implement, in their workplace, what they have learned and bring feedback to the next session. There will be some light homework, such as readings and videos.
Instructor Bradley Thomspon is a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, and of the former Fortis Institute with an associate degree in Welding Technology. He has also certified in Six Sigma and Lean as a Black Belt, and as an English as a Second Language Teacher. Bradley recently joined the Jefferson Society as a member of their Civic Leadership Academy. He has trained with numerous companies and organizations in leadership, management, communication, and project management, including courses certified by Dale Carnegie and John Maxwell. He is currently the Television, Radio, and Digital Programming manager at WQLN PBS NPR in Erie, Pennsylvania, and serves as a member of the PBS Programming Advisory Council and PBS Digital Workplace Council. His diverse work history includes management positions in retail with Macy’s and Valu Home Center, as well as experience with industrial roles in welding (General Electric Locomotives) and plastics (Beechwood Industries, also known as Toy Biz).

American Sign Language II - Beyond the Basics

Broaden your knowledge of the deaf community and deaf culture by participating in an intermediate course in American Sign Language (ASL). If you took the American Sign Language course for Fall 2024, the class is the next step in the path to learning ASL. In this course, participants will learn about deaf culture as well as grammar structure, classifiers, numbers thru 100, hobbies and activities, pronouns, time and calendar, sports, directions, travel, holidays, season and outdoors! The 8-week course starts on Tuesday, March 11, 2025 – Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 6p-8p at the Corry Higher Education Council. CPR & First Aid Certification Training
with Melissa Turben
Certified instructor Melissa Turben will lead an upcoming training for CPR & First Aid certification through the Emergency Care & Safety Institute. Topics to be covered will include causes of heart attacks and strokes with necessary First Aid, diabetic emergencies, seizures, and heat/cold emergencies. AED and community Hands-Only CPR training will be provided, with mouth-to-mouth CPR to be discussed. Training and certifications meet job-related requirements as defined by regulatory authorities such as OSHA, The Joint Commission, and state offices of EMS, Education, Transportation, and Health. CPR & First Aid Certification Training will be held on Wednesday, March 12 from 4p-8p at the Corry High School Career & Technology Center. The cost is $50. A CPR/First Aid pocket field guide will be included in the cost of the class. Participants must be at least age 15 and be accompanied by an adult if under 18. Seating is limited. PLCB-Owner/Manager Training

Owner/Manager Training is offered and required by the PA Liquor Control Board as part of the Responsible Alcohol Management Program (RAMP), which focuses on those individuals most responsible for determining daily operations and policies of the licensed establishment — the owner and manager. Complete training requirements and licensing information can be found on lcb.pa.gov. This local training session will be offered on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 8:45 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Corry Higher Education Council.
