Master Homeowner - Home Energy Efficiency
Brought to you by the Erie County Land Bank, Impact Corry, and the Corry Higher Education Council, register for a unique education program creating successful homeowners. The Master Homeowner classes is a series of 9 classes held weekly on Thursdays (no classes October 10 or October 31) starting Thursday, September 12, 2024, through Thursday, November 21, 2024, at the Corry Higher Education Council. The class is intended for senior citizens with deteriorating homes, first-time homebuyers, and homeowners interested in basic DIY skills.
Class Five: Home Energy Efficiency. Homeowners learn energy efficiency concepts, the advantages of controlling the conditioned air in their homes, and how to identify and eliminate energy waste.

Master Homeowner - Basic Household Plumbing

Class Six: Basic Household Plumbing. Homeowners learn how their home plumbing system works, where to check for leaks, and how to prevent clogs. This class identifies common problems with household plumbing systems.

CPR & First Aid Certification Training
with Melissa Turben
Certified instructor Melissa Turben will lead an upcoming training for CPR & First Aid certification through the Emergency Care & Safety Institute. Topics to be covered will include causes of heart attacks and strokes with necessary First Aid, diabetic emergencies, seizures, and heat/cold emergencies. AED and community Hands-Only CPR training will be provided, with mouth-to-mouth CPR to be discussed. Training and certifications meet job-related requirements as defined by regulatory authorities such as OSHA, The Joint Commission, and state offices of EMS, Education, Transportation, and Health. CPR & First Aid Certification Training will be held on Monday, October 28 from 3:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the Corry High School Career & Technology Center. The cost is $50. A CPR/First Aid pocket field guide will be included in the cost of the class. Participants must be at least age 15 and be accompanied by an adult if under 18. Seating is limited. ServSafe - Food Safety Training

The ServSafe Food Safety program is for individuals who are serving as managers or are in a supervisory role requiring certification. Upon successful completion, participants will receive the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certificate. This training meets the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture requirements for the Food Employee Certification Act. This program will be offered on two consecutive Wednesdays, October 30 from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and November 6 from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.; a lunch break will be provided. Participants will sit for their certification examination on Day 2, between 11 a.m. and noon. The cost is $165, which includes the study book and examination fee. Cooking for Crowds – A Volunteer’s Guide to Safe Food Handling

Does your organization know the food safety risks that result from cooking large volumes of food? Even those who have been volunteering for years might not be aware of the additional safety risks that come with preparing large quantities of food.
Cooking for Crowds is a food safety course intended to address food safety issues faced by volunteer-based organizations. It covers topics such as how food becomes unsafe, preparation practices to keep food safe, and purchasing, storage of food and supplies, and how to plan a successful food event.
The workshop presented by PennState Extension is on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 5:30p-8:30p at the Corry Higher Education Council. OSHA 30
with Frank O'Connell
Brought to Corry Hi-Ed by Northern Pennsylvania Regional College (NPRC), OSHA 30 covers a variety of safety subjects and in-depth, industry-specific training and is intended for supervisors and workers with safety and health responsibilities. This synchronous course addresses specific regulations as they apply to the general industry and help students meet workplace training requirements and receive an OSHA 30 certification card. The OSHA 30 course will be held Monday, October 14, Tuesday, October 15, Thursday, October 17, Monday, October 21, Tuesday, October 22, and Thursday, October 24 from 10a – 3:30p with a 30-minute lunch (meal not provided) each day at Corry Higher Education Council. Class Seven: Home Electrical Basics. Homeowners learn the functions of a basic residential electrical system. This class teaches practical electrical safety, energy usage in the home and how to hire an electrician if one is needed.
