Autism 101 - Family, Caretaker, and Community Training

Presented by the Autism Society of Northwestern PA, Executive Director Tish Barlett offers an informative and insightful training session designed for families, caretakers, and community members who want to learn more about Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). Participants will gain a deeper understanding of Autism, including its communication, sensory, and behavioral aspects. We will explore various traits associated with the Autism spectrum and provide practical strategies for supporting individuals with ASD.
Topics covered include an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorder, understanding communication challenges and strategies, sensory sensitivities and how they effect behavior, behavioral traits and coping mechanisms, ways to support individuals with Autism in daily life, and accessing resources and getting help.
By the end of this session, participants will have a greater understanding and acceptance of Autism Spectrum Disorder, empowering them to provide better support to individuals with ASD in their families, communities, and beyond. Join us to increase your knowledge, understanding, and ability to make a positive difference in the lives of those with Autism.

Introduction to Healthy Eating for Gluten Sensitivity

This class taught by a Registered Dietitian, Nutritionist will give an introduction to gluten containing foods to help those with already diagnosed gluten sensitivity or those who would like to learn more about the topic. No experience or flexibility required—just bring an open mind, a willingness to explore, and your own yoga mat.

Tara Graham holds a BFA in Graphic Design and is a highly credentialed holistic health practitioner with over 20 years of teaching experience in yoga, mindfulness, and nutrition. She is a 500-hour Certified Yoga Teacher through the Himalayan Institute, where she also completed her 200-hour foundational training. Tara is a Certified Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist (200-hour AYS) recognized by the National Ayurvedic Medical Association (NAMA), and a Certified Health Coach through the Institute for Integrative Nutrition. She is board certified by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners (AADP) as a Holistic Health Practitioner.
Her additional certifications include Yin Yoga (Yoga International), MELT Method Instruction (Longevity Fitness Inc.), and MindBody Therapy (Embodied Philosophy). Tara offers public classes, workshops, and private wellness services, including health counseling, holistic education, somatic therapy, and behavior modification coaching. CPR & First Aid Certification Training
with Melissa Turben

Certified instructor Melissa Turben will lead an upcoming training for CPR & First Aid certification through the Emergency Care & Safety Institute. Topics to be covered will include causes of heart attacks and strokes with necessary First Aid, diabetic emergencies, seizures, and heat/cold emergencies. AED and community Hands-Only CPR training will be provided, with mouth-to-mouth CPR to be discussed. Training and certifications meet job-related requirements as defined by regulatory authorities such as OSHA, The Joint Commission, and state offices of EMS, Education, Transportation, and Health. CPR & First Aid Certification Training will be held on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, from 4p-8p at the Corry High School Career & Technology Center. The cost is $50. A CPR/First Aid pocket field guide will be included in the cost of the class. Participants must be at least age 15 and be accompanied by an adult if under 18. Seating is limited. ServSafe - Food Safety Training

The ServSafe Food Safety program is for individuals who are serving as managers or are in a supervisory role requiring certification. Upon successful completion, participants will receive the ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certificate. This training meets the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture requirements for the Food Employee Certification Act. This program will be offered on two consecutive Thursdays, October 9, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., and October 16, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.; a lunch break will be provided. Participants will sit for their certification examination on Day 2, between 11 a.m. and noon. The cost is $165, which includes the study book and examination fee.
