Exploring "Corry Stories" - A Book by John Seitz

Enjoy an evening exploring the tales and writing process of Corry native, John Seitz – the author of “Corry Stories.” Learn how and why he became a first-time writer just six years ago at the age of 70, and his approach to discovering potential stories about Corry and his writing selection process. John will be reading a few newly written accounts of growing up in Corry and selections from his upcoming book “I See Stories…Observations of Love and Discovery from Within the Ordinary.” He will also encourage those attending to share their memories of Corry - memories that may have been sparked by some of John’s stories. For those interested in publishing a book, John will be available to discuss Amazon publishing and the practical concerns with, and benefits of, self-publishing. “Corry Stories” will be available for purchase at the event.

DIY Hat Bar

The Boutique By Sarah brings a unique experience to Corry - a hat bar! The DIY Hat Bar classes are the ultimate hands-on experience for anyone looking to create a one-of-a-kind accessory. For $55, each participant gets to choose their preferred hat style and color—think fedoras, cowboy hats, or Panama styles—and customize it with a wide variety of accessories. From ribbons and hat bands to feathers, charms, and pins, every detail is up to you. We provide all the materials and guidance you need to design a personalized hat that perfectly matches your style. No matter the occasion, our Hat Bars are all about creativity, fun, and fashion.

Microsoft Excel Basics

This two-part introductory course is designed for individuals with little to no prior experience with Microsoft Excel. Participants will learn the fundamental skills necessary to create, edit, format, and manage spreadsheets efficiently. The class covers key features including:

-Navigating the Excel interface and understanding workbook structure

-Entering and organizing data in worksheets

-Basic formulas and functions (SUM, AVERAGE, COUNT, etc.)

-Formatting cells for readability (fonts, colors, borders, number formats)

-Using basic charts and visualizations

-Sorting and filtering data

-Saving, printing, and sharing workbooks

Through guided instruction and hands-on exercises, students will gain confidence in using Excel for everyday tasks, whether for personal use, education, or professional settings.

Podcast 101

In this one-time two-hour workshop, students will learn how to create, record, and publish their own podcasts. Students will be able to post videos to YouTube and other supporting video platforms. This will be a demo workshop where students will create sample podcasts and work on how to record and upload them, and how to share the content. Gain hands-on experience creating your own podcast.

Required materials: student to bring in their personal laptops, microphones and web cam (laptops with built in cameras and microphones are preferred).

LGBTQ+ 101

"LGBTQ+ 101" is a basic training covering fundamentals of the LGBTQ+ experience. We look at current terms, definitions and vocabulary; explore the social context of discrimination and examine some of the physical and behavioral disparities experienced by the LGBTQ+ community. There’s an extended look at SOGIE (Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity & Expression) with an examination of the challenges and issues facing trans and non-binary people with a discussion of current best practices for working with that population. The program finishes with a look at what you and your organization can do to create a safe, welcoming environment.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Workshop participants will learn the difference between sexual orientation and gender identity.

Participants will learn the context of discrimination in which the LGBTQ+ develop and the wide range of health disparities growing out of that.

Participants will learn the most current terms used by members of the transgender community.

Participants will learn strategies and best practices for working with the trans community.

Participants will learn some of the resources available to help them assist their LGBTQ+ clients.

Founded in 1972, Persad Center is the nation's second oldest behavioral health & wellness center working with the LGBTQ+ and HIV/AIDS community. As part of our mission to promote the well-being of our constituents, Persad Center works extensively on issues affecting the community: Homelessness, family rejection, bullying, at-risk behaviors, support groups, senior services, addiction counseling and transgender care and services.

Ted Hoover is an Educator/Trainer who has worked with PA Bureau of Family Health on such issues as LGBTQ+ youth suicide prevention, adolescent sexual health and creating safe work/education environments across the Commonwealth. Additionally, he focuses on issues of discrimination, hate crime and human trafficking with area law enforcement and the Civil Rights Division of the FBI.
